Typical kit list for hiking and mountain activities
This is the typical kit list for hikes and mountain activities. It will give you an idea of what kit you’ll typically need but, please, always check the activity/event specific kit lists!
- Walking boots + thick socks (or well fitting trainers if you don't have walking boots; wellies are not recommended for hiking)
- Tracksuit/activity trousers (NO JEANS)
- T-shirt/base layer
- Sweatshirt/fleece layer
- Group necker
- Rucksack (preferably with waist strap)
- Hard-shell waterproof jacket
- Waterproof trousers
- A spare warm layer
- Warm hat and gloves
- Sun hat, sun cream, sunglasses
- Midge net and insect repellent (depending on where we're going)
- Packed lunch and snacks
- Full bottle of non-fizzy drink (min.1 litre)
- Thermos flask of hot drink – optional
- Personal medication if needed
Plus, if we might have the chance for some wild swimming:
- Swimming costume (or spare clothes to change into after swimming)
- Towel
- Wet shoes / flip flops (something that will protect your feet from stones but isn't too bulky or heavy to carry)
