Scouts Remember

Posted by JonC on November 12, 2014

Beavers, Cubs and Scouts from 1st Hensingham Scout Group joined Explorers from Phoenix Explorer Scout Unit to take part in Sunday's Remembrance Parade alongside veterans and serving members of the armed forces, local cadet units, and other local organisations and the general public.

We paraded from the Copeland Centre on Catherine Street to the memorial in Lowther Park where they took part in the act of Remembrance and laid a wreath.  As the rain started we re-joined the parade to march along Lowther Street and King Street to the market.

Group Scout Leader Karen Jackson said, "It's great to see such a good turn out from our young members, and their families, to commemorate the sacrifices made by those who serve our Country."

During the First World War, Scouts joined in the war effort on the Home Front acting as lookouts and working in the fields to produce food.  Scroll down to see some archive video footage of Scouts during the War that has been put together by the folks at Scout Association HQ.
