Packed with thanks!

Posted by JonC on March 11, 2016

We'd like to say a massive thank you to the staff and customers of Morrisons supermarket in Whitehaven.  Our bag pack fundraiser on 5 March raised a whopping £1585.75 which we're already putting to good use to prepare for our next big camp in May.

Beavers, Cubs and Scouts from 1st Hensingham will be joining up with others from across the Western Lakes District at the start of May for an action packed bank holiday weekend at local campsite in Ennerdale.  The funds raised from our bag pack are allowing us to buy new tents ready for the camp and to invest in some new activity equipment which will help around 250 young people from across Copeland have an amazing weekend of fun challenge and adventure.

As well as traditional Scouting activities such as campfires, wide games, backwoods cooking and pioneering, our intrepid scouts will be testing their aim with archery, axe throwing and air rifle shooting.  They'll be whizzing through trees on an aerial runway and low ropes assault course, and braving our poly-tunnel cave system. We'll be making our own mini-stoves and tea-light holders, doing crafts and Scouts from different Groups will be battling it out on our slippery pole and to find out who can top the tent pitching leader board. (You can find out more, including how to sign-up if you're a member of the Group here).

We also got a number of enquiries from people wanting to start Scouting and we look forward to welcoming them to the worlds biggest family!

Our Group is run entirely by volunteers and is entirely self-funding, so the support of Morrisons, their staff and customers has made a big impact on the number and variety of activities our young members can enjoy.  If you came and supported us - thank you, and we'll be back again next year!
